A Peaceful World

FOREIGN POLICY

“Human rights is the soul of our foreign policy, because human rights is the very soul of our sense of nationhood.”

—Jimmy Carter

Key policies:

  • Creation of Election Interference Agency to prevent Russian collusion

  • North Korea: Diplomacy to solve nuclear tensions

  • Maintain and join new peacekeeping organizations to eliminate terrorism

  • Allocate money to eradicate HIV/AIDS

  • Protect DACA and DAPA

  • Intervene in the Rohingya crisis

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Details:

    Russia

    • Interference in international elections.

      • The US must sustain its efforts to stop the Russian government from influencing foreign elections. It has done so in the American presidential election of 2016, but it will not in the future.

        • Through a new agency, the Election Interference Agency, the Russians, many of whom send out false information about candidates unfavorable to Russia, can be stopped.

    North Korea

    • Diplomacy to solve the nuclear tensions.

      • Currently, North Korea is ramping up its nuclear missile tests, and is posing a threat not only to America, but also to the rest of the world.

      • Pressuring China will be key in solving this problem. By forcing them to stop all trade with North Korea, the North Korean economy will stifle. This will force them to discuss their nuclear aspirations with the rest of the world, where an agreement can be reached.

      • Additionally, pressuring others nations to stop trading with the North Koreans will further their desperation, requiring them to peacefully talk with the rest of the world.

      • Lastly, keeping the sanctions on North Korea will be invaluable in the efforts to keep its economy growing, which allows it to invest in its military so much.

    The Middle East and Africa

    • Terrorism

      • ISIS

        • Under the current international coalition, ISIS has lost an large portion of their territory. Therefore, committing to this coalition is of the utmost importance.

      • Al-Shabab

        • To defeat Al-Shabaab, a strong partnership with Somalia is required. Therefore, the US government must enter a mutual agreement, where both countries allocate equal assets to eradicate Al-Shabab.

      • Boko Haram

        • Continuing the good relations with Nigeria will be vital to fighting Boko Haram. Currently, the US has already made significant steps towards working together with them, and this partnership has led to several territory victories already.

      • The Taliban

        • Presently, they are harbored in several areas in Afghanistan. Therefore, continued missile strikes, and a strong partnership with the government of Afghanistan could help efforts on the ground. These two tactics combined could lead to the takedown of this radical Islamic terrorist group.

    • Iran

      • Preventing Iran from going nuclear is the main priority for the US (and its allies). Thus, the current agreement between the US, Iran, and several other nations should be kept intact. However, if the Iranian government were to violate the agreement, new sanctions could be placed on them, which would cripple their economy.

    Developing Nations

    • HIV & AIDS

      • The US must remain committed to its work in creating the first HIV AIDS free generation since the start of the disease. This work will be done through the existing programs

    • Money for development

      • Continuing attempts to raise ‘third-world countries’ from poverty should be a critical priority for the US government. In 2016, the US invested less money in developing nations than was invested in the US itself. Ultimately, the advancement of other countries means that the entire world is benefitting. Therefore, the US should sustain its current efforts and potentially even increase its investments (that will later pay-off due to foreign governments investing in the US).

    Immigration Reform

    • DACA and DAPA

      • Both of these programs must be protected, so that the millions of legal DREAMers can remain in the US. Their actions have been very beneficial for the US, and they work should therefore be rewarder

    • Create new immigration laws that will humanely remove immigrants that are unwelcome in the US

    • Many immigrants that come to the US do so for good reasons. However, if they are illegally remaining in America, without pursuing the option of legal residency, they should return to their home country (unless there is a direct threat to them)

    Rohingya Crisis

    • Call upon the international community to investigate the exact details of the genocide, and protect/aid the refugees that evade persecution by crossing the border to neighboring countries

      • Our campaign manager, Ben Katz, spent the summer volunteering in a children refugee camp for Rohingya children. There he gained first-hand experience about the crisis.

        • Millions of Rohingyan Muslims have been affected by this crisis; suffering from many illnesses and tragedies. We call upon our allies to aid us in helping these people recover from this disaster.

    • We call upon the UN to start diplomatic talks with the government of Myanmar to resolve this issue, and offer to stand in as a negotiator
